Series editor: Jens M. Scherpe, Professor of Comparative Law, Aalborg University, Denmark, and Emeritus Fellow, Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge, UK
Family law is a discipline deeply rooted in the historical, social, religious and political life of a nation. However, we can also see that similar issues arise in family law across societies and jurisdictions at similar times, driven by social change and scientific and medical advances. By looking beyond the national, comparative family law can encourage critical engagement with domestic laws, highlight different family constructs in cross-border situations and inspire future law reform. To this end, both comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives are essential. This book series aims to discuss and map family law issues in their societal contexts and examine the policies behind different approaches, as well as their efficacy. The series brings together both smaller and larger comparative studies as well as interdisciplinary research on modern family law from Europe and beyond.
