Our experienced production team will produce a book you will be proud of. All of our manuscripts are copy-edited and proofread in the UK to ensure optimum quality and will be finished to the very highest standard. Your desk editor will be in close liaison during the processing and production stages, involving you in important decisions such as book jacket design.
What do academic publishers do to turn a final manuscript into a published book? Part two of this two part video explains the high quality publishing process at Edward Elgar Publishing from the typesetting stage through to production of the final print book and ebook.
[MUSIC PLAYING] Once proofs come in from the typesetter, the desk editor receives them, has a quick check through to check all the pages, there are no, sort of, glaring errors. And then we'll send the proofs out to the author for review. To the proofreader and also to the indexer. Once the proofreader has sent their marked up file back to the desk editor, the desk editor will combine those comments that the proofreaders have itemized with the author's and that's what we call the proof collection stage. At about that time, we would hope to have had the cover design through the initial cover design. That is sent to the commissioning editor and receiving editor in our Cheltenham office for an initial look, and then to the author. And then amends or whatever is needed is made as appropriate. Once the desk editor has checked that the proof collection amends have been made correctly, then final corrections are sent to the typesetter. And a final file is requested, which will be print-ready and sent to the printer. We use UK-based printers, one main one, to print our books. They're printed to a very high quality, we're very aware of the longevity that hopefully our books will have. And the quality of the bind and paper is something we take very seriously. There is very good and constant liaison with other departments. Everybody takes a real pride in the production of the books. No shortcuts are taken. So right along, the desk editor will make sure that the author's integrity of the book is maintained and their intentions are carried through absolutely as far as possible. [MUSIC PLAYING]
